In December we advertised an exciting Christmas lights fundraising project being undertaken for the first time by Ciara Crangle and her friends and neighbours in Ballybrack. We are delighted now to report on an outstanding success in fundraising from this undertaking.  Ciara raised the grand total of €2,280 for Colorectal Cancer patient care and research here in St. Vincent’s.

The pictures capture the spirit of the Christmas lights exhibition, which clearly was marvellous. Ciara presented the cheque for the money raised, together with her friend Sinead Cahill recently. On behalf of all our patients we express our sincere thanks for this wonderful activity and result.

  2. Collen Charity Cycle 2022 – The Sky’s the Limit

In addition to being one of the oldest companies in Ireland (founded 1810), Collen Construction are unrivalled in their contribution to the societies where they work. Corporate Social Responsibility is clearly a central value for the company and has been so long before it became a focus generally in business.

St. Vincent’s is fortunate to have been selected as a Charity Partner by Collen raising funds for St Anne’s/Cancer in the hospital. St. Anne’s was originally selected by Collen in memory of their much-loved colleague, the late Conor O’Carroll, who was treated in St. Vincent’s.

We cannot better describe this year’s event than to reproduce the words of Tommy Drumm, Managing Director of Collen Construction.  We are indebted to all in Collen, particularly the Cycling Committee.

“Collen Construction held their annual Charity Cycle over the weekend of Friday 23rd – Sunday 25th September 2022. A total of 140 participants made up of Collen employees, friends, family, charity partners, clients, subcontractors, and extended supply chain participated in the event, choosing their own route and cycling at their own pace. The event also had 30 main sponsors from Collen’s supply chain and brought together Collen’s project teams in Ireland, Germany and Sweden, with others participating in Abu Dhabi, UK, France, Hong Kong, Spain, South Africa and USA. A total of over 10,000km was cycled, with €80,000 raised for Collen’s 17 charity partners, which include St. Vincent’s Foundation.”

This year’s Charity Presentation took place in Collen Head Office, East Wall Road on Friday 16th December where Neil Collen, Chairman and Tommy Drumm, Managing Director presented John Hickey, C.E.O., St. Vincent’s Foundation with a cheque for €5,000 (see photo of cheque presentation)

Clontibret Pipe Band recently held a dedication night for their founding member Kenny Graham who had passed away a few years ago. On the dedication night they formally renamed the band, in his memory, as Graham Memorial Clontibret Pipe Band. There is a particularly strong connection between the Band members and St. Vincent’s Liver Unit. Adrian Jebb, who had a successful liver transplant in 2005, is a very active member, together with his family. Kenny Graham had previously fundraised very successfully for St. Vincent’s Liver Unit.

On the dedication night, the band took up a collection to be shared equally between Cavan Monaghan Palliative Care and also the Liver Unit in St. Vincent’s. From the total raised of €1,200, we are delighted to acknowledge receipt of €600 for St. Brigid’s Ward in the Liver Unit. Our thanks to all concerned for their generosity to St. Vincent’s.

Following the premature birth of her daughter Freya in February 2022, Charlene Murphy from Tullow, County Carlow spent some time in the Intensive Care Unit and St. Anne’s Ward here in St. Vincent’s.

After her successful recovery, Charlene and her husband Pàdraig fundraised to benefit the three hospitals involved in the care of Charlene and of Freya and in the process raised the amazing total of almost €14,500 to be shared between the three hospitals.

Charlene and Pàdraig called their challenging venture The Dublin to The DÈISE cycle! Our journey for Freya, which took them from St. Vincent’s Hospital to the Waterford SCBU where Freya was cared for after her birth. We are delighted to share some of the photos taken at the cycle.

From the total funds raised, €4,421.85 was donated for St. Anne’s Ward in St. Vincent’s to purchase an exercise machine for patients. In addition they donated €2,250 for equipment and education in the Intensive Care Unit in the hospital. This contribution of nearly €6,700 for the benefit of patients in St. Vincent’s is most appreciated.

Finally we are delighted to report that Freya is a happy and healthy baby now of nine months old.

Pictured presenting her fundraising proceeds of €6,671.85 to St. Vincent’s are Charlene with her daughter Kayla, along with Chandan D’Souza & Joy Lewis, Clinical Nurse Specialists in Haematology Dept. and John Hickey, C.E.O. St. Vincent’s Foundation.
