Joan McDermott’s fundraising for St. Vincent’s Liver Unit

20/02/2017

Joan McDermott and her family from County Leitrim, are taking part in the Cara Bundoran 2017: 5km walk/10km Run on 10th/11th March next, fundraising for the Liver Unit here in St. Vincent’s.

Joan plans to do the 5km walk and her sisters will do the 10km run.

Joan outlines the reasons why she is fundraising for the Liver Unit:

“After having spent a few months in The Liver Unit in St Vincents Hospital, I can see how vital it is to try and raise funds for this very worthy cause. I received a liver transplant in 2016 and am doing very well since T.G. I have since returned to work and am doing and enjoying all the things with my family and friends, that I hadn’t been able to do beforehand. I am so grateful, that I promised myself leaving the hospital that I would try to do some fundraising to give something back in return.”

Joan has set up an Everyday Hero fundraising page and please log onto her page to donate:

Joan additionally hightlights the importance of organ donation:

“…. I want to highlight the importance of carrying donor cards, and letting your family members know of your wishes regarding organ donation.”

On behalf of our patients, we are most grateful to Joan and her family for supporting St. Vincent’s Liver Unit and wish them the best of luck in the event.
